The Swine Flu left the tourism industry of Puerto Vallarta
stunted. In order to promote the tourism and reactivate it, President Felipe Calderon has initiated the “Vive Mexico” campaign. The world’s number one LPGA player Lorena Ochoa, who is a local Mexican player, came to Puerto Vallarta on Saturday 30 May 2009.
Lorena Ochoa was born on the 15th of November, 1981. She is one of the Mexican golfers who play on the U.S-based LPGA Tour. She is presently ranked as one of the best and number one female golfer’s of the world. She is also the first Mexican golfer who is not ranked number one according to her gender, but actually according to her skilful expertise at playing golf. She is also considered the best Mexican golf player of all time. She is the daughter of Graciela Alonso’s, who is also a famous Mexican golfer.
The general public, with the locals and the tourists were all welcomed to Vista Vallarta Jack Nicklaus Golf Course, and watch her play in Puerto Vallarta. This session began at 10 a.m. and was a complete success. A golf clinic also began at around 9.15 a.m. on the driving range, which was hosted by Lorena’s coach, Rafael Alarcon. Lorena further elaborated her tour and came down to the Los Arcos Amphitheatre, which is located in downtown Puerto Vallarta. She came there at 5.30 p.m. where she was officially named the Tourist Ambassador by the Secretary Of Tourism in Jalisco. Since this event was held in order to endorse the tourism in Puerto Vallarta, a number of T-shirts in bulk were designed and distributed to the all the members sporting the Secretariat of Tourism. These shirts carried the new publicity campaign slogans and were in many different vibrant colours.
Lorena Ochoa is not just a name for the Mexicans; she is a star of Mexico. She helps the people of Mexico in whatever way she can, and her coming down to Puerto Vallarta in order to stimulate tourism is a testimony to that. She also heads The Lorena Ochoa Foundation which operates in La Barranca. This is a primary school situated in Guadalajara which provides education to about 250 underprivileged students. It is a great educational and innovative curriculum.
